The Approach

Research-based methods, in plain English

Stacey’s training isn’t just letters after a name. Each method shapes how your child learns. Here’s what they mean for you.

Orton-Gillingham & the Science of Reading

A structured, multisensory, step-by-step approach to reading and spelling, especially effective for students who struggle with decoding or show signs of dyslexia. Skills are taught explicitly and built in a logical sequence.

Brain Friendly Reading

Lessons are paced and structured the way young brains actually learn, keeping students engaged, reducing frustration, and helping new skills stick for the long term.

Conscious Discipline

A calm, supportive style that helps children manage emotions and stay focused. Tutoring feels safe and encouraging, so kids are ready to take on a challenge instead of shutting down.

Handwriting Without Tears

A proven, child-friendly program that makes handwriting easier and more comfortable, building legible writing and the fine-motor confidence that supports all schoolwork.

Mathematics, K–8

With a math major and decades of teaching, Stacey supports everything from early number sense through pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry, closing gaps and building real understanding, not just memorization.

Questions, Answered

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before getting started, distilled from the Tutoring Services Agreement.

How long is each tutoring session?

Each session is 55 minutes of focused, one-on-one instruction. Sessions begin and end on time, and a late arrival by a student or parent doesn’t extend the session, which keeps the schedule reliable for every family.

What grades and subjects do you tutor?

Stacey works with students in grades K–8, supporting core elementary subjects including reading, writing, and math. In math, she tutors through pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry.

Do you offer in-person and online sessions?

Yes, both. In-person sessions are held at the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, MI, and online sessions are available by video for families who prefer to meet from home.

How much does tutoring cost?

Session pricing depends on whether you choose a prepaid package or pay à la carte. Email our team to inquire about current semester pricing.

Is a deposit required to get started?

Yes. A non-refundable $90 deposit (price of one session plus an enrollment fee) is required to reserve your spot. A portion of the deposit equivalent to the value of one session is applied toward your final payment, and no sessions are scheduled until a deposit is on file.

How does billing and payment work?

All scheduling, invoicing, and payments are handled through TutorBird. You’ll receive a client-portal login to view your balance, upcoming sessions, and invoices, and to pay securely by credit card. Sessions are paid at least one week in advance; when credits run low an invoice is sent automatically and is due within 48 hours.

What happens if my child is sick or misses a session?

If a student is unable to attend for any reason, the session fee is forfeited, and no refunds or credits are issued for student absences. This policy keeps the reserved time fair to every family.

What if Stacey has to cancel a session?

If the tutor ever needs to cancel, that session is rescheduled at no additional cost or credited to your account.

Do prepaid session credits expire?

Yes. Unused credits expire at the end of each term (summer, fall, and winter) unless otherwise agreed in writing, which helps keep tutoring consistent and effective.

How can I communicate about my child’s progress?

You’re welcome to speak with Stacey at the start of a session, and you’ll get a brief 2-minute summary at pickup. A complimentary 15-minute phone consultation is included at the start of each term (summer, fall, and winter), and additional 15-minute consultations can be scheduled for a fee. Please schedule consultations in advance rather than extending session time.

What do I need to do before each session?

Please provide a clear, written description of the topics, assignments, or goals you’d like covered before each session. Stacey will come prepared based on that information so the full 55 minutes are well spent. Also be sure your child arrives on time and ready, and that you’re available at the end for the 2-minute summary.

How do I get started?

Getting started is easy: email Stacey to introduce your child and share what you’re looking for. She’ll walk you through enrollment, and once your deposit is placed you’ll receive a Student Portal login to schedule sessions, view invoices, and pay securely.

How do I end the arrangement if needed?

Tutoring continues on a session-by-session basis, and either party may end the arrangement with one week’s written notice. Any remaining prepaid credits are refunded, minus the non-refundable deposit and any outstanding session fees.
